The Expression of Genuine Oneness
Before I became a Christian, I always wondered why Christians were so divided. They said they had only one God and claimed to be the children of God, yet there was no expression of genuine oneness among all Christians. Because of this, I used to think if one day I ever needed a religion, I probably would become a Buddhist. But little did I know that God had chosen me in Christ before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:4). He graciously visited me as the Spirit (2 Corinthians 3:17) through the speaking of some dear believers and brought me to the church. They presented to me the truth from the Bible concerning the ground of the church -- one church in one city (Revelation 1:11; Acts 8:1; 13:1). Deep within me I knew that this was what I was looking for. In the first church meeting that I attended, I saw people from different backgrounds, speaking in different languages, yet they were meeting together in such a harmonious way. My heart responded as I saw in practice the Lord's prayer in John 17:21, which says, that they all may be one, even as you Father are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in us; that the world may believe that You have sent Me. Another aspect which caused me to decide to meet with the local church was that the church had so many believers of different ages, from teenagers to senior citizens, who lived out the testimony of Jesus Christ (Revelation 1:2). They were not merely Christians in name or Christians only on Sunday. On the contrary, they were people who meant business with the Lord by showing their love to Him in their daily living. They prayed to God and read and prayed over the Word daily. They also preached the gospel to people whenever they had an opportunity. Seeing this cloud of witnesses of Jesus, I desired to live the same way ten, twenty or thirty years down the road of my Christian life. Since then, I have been constantly inspired to be one who can bring others to the Lord and the church by living out a proper testimony. I believe that God is happy to see this kind of situation among His children, and I feel blessed to be a part of it.
